Cross the river towards St Pauls by the pedestrian bridge and turn immediately right. There you will find steps down to the foreshore which are always ope. if the tide is out you can beachcomb on the foreshore. You will easily find clay pipe stems which are at least 100 years old and may find old glass bottle top with corks, pottery etc.

If it is a fine day take a boat down the river - there are many piers: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/15544.aspx . And if you are back in the summer you can take the steam paddle boat Waverely down the Thames towards the sea: http://www.waverleyexcursions.co.uk/

Finally, if Benedict is into football take him to a big football match (I would suggest the family stand). The tickets can be expensive but an experience. There are several big teams in west London - QPR, Fulham and of course Chelsea.

Hope this is useful and keep on posting!

Best wishes

Melissamelissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15907197221090044307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8313027587618231694.post-21306749037802363192010-11-25T07:18:53.601-08:002010-11-25T07:18:53.601-08:00Hi Franz

I found your blog through the Guardian - did you know about the mention?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2010/nov/15/city-travel-blogs-london-paris

As I have a 9 year old son I thought I could recommend some places - but you've been so amazingly busy I am not sure there are any left!

If Benedict wants something more active and meet other kids for a couple of hours, all the galleries and museums run kids or family activities at weekends and school holidays. The Science Museum and Natural history Museums are favourites - and you've found them!

My son also enjoyed the digital studio in the basement of the British Museum: http://www.britishmuseum.org/whats_on/events_calendar/family_events.aspx

Round the corner is his favourite shop, Playin' Games, with all kinds of card and board games. 33 Museum Street WC1A 1LH. And close by is Forbidden Planet, his second favourite shop which does comics and similar. 179 Shaftesbury Avenue WC2H 8JR forbiddenplanet.com .melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15907197221090044307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8313027587618231694.post-57758823208749332452010-11-25T07:10:05.407-08:002010-11-25T07:10:05.407-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15907197221090044307noreply@blogger.com
